Wednesday Beauty Tips: How to treat a scar with TLC
/Scarring is part of the natural healing process… but we don’t necessarily want a permanent mark on our skin!
Here are a few simple tips to help minimize scars (this is obviously meant for average scars. Extensive scar issues are beyond the scope of this article):
Assist the healing process by keeping wounds clean and moist to prevent infection. Make sure to create a protective barrier with a simple natural ointment that contains cocoa butter for example (I know a lot of people are told to use petroleum jelly, but I personally would NOT put that on my skin). This will speed up wound healing, improve scar appearance and reduce scabbing.
Also, a moistened scab is less likely to be itchy or painful. That may help you avoid scratching or picking at it.
Once the skin is healed, apply our HEAL scar oil twice a day . Massage until absorbed into the skin. Massaging a scar increases blood circulation, and may help decrease sensations of numbness, tingling, soreness, as well as scar tissue build-up.
I personally remember how long it took for my C-section scar to feel comfortable to the touch. At the time, the unpleasant feeling was a bit scary and I avoided touching my scar altogether. In hindsight, I would have benefited from massaging it until the symptoms diminished. Here is a simple video I found on YouTube showing some gentle techniques to massage a C-section scar.
And finally: If you are anything like me, remember to be patient. Scars do take time to fade!
